Gym-Tastic Prize for Pledge Winner

She made a resolution in January to be more physically active - and by sticking to it, competition winner Bev Anderson has won a year’s free membership at the new Macdonald St. Paul’s Hotel Sheffield, as part of The People’s Movement, Sheffield’s physical activity campaign.

Bev was presented with her prize by Paul Billington of The People’s Movement, and Hotel General Manager Garin Davies, after her pledge to walk her two dogs more often, dig the garden, and go swimming once a week.

Paul Billington, spokesperson for The People’s Movement, said: “We had a fantastic response to The People’s Movement New Year pledge, with people from all areas of the city telling us how they intend to lead a more active lifestyle.

“Many people across the city, including Bev, have made a resolution to stay active throughout 2006 and beyond, and this competition is just one of the many ways the campaign can highlight opportunities for getting out there and getting active.

“The People’s Movement aims to show that being physically active is not just about playing sport. Normal, everyday activities, such as walking the dog, doing housework, or taking the stairs instead of the lift, can contribute to people’s health and well being, and play a part in reducing levels of coronary heart disease, obesity and diabetes in the city.

“I’d urge people to check out The People’s Movement Website, www.thepeoplesmovement.co.uk and see what is happening in the city centre and their own community, and I’m sure they’ll be surprised by how much actually happens in Sheffield every week that they could take part in.”

Garin Davies, General Manager at Macdonald St. Paul’s Hotel Sheffield, said: “We are delighted to be able to offer this prize, and hope that Bev continues to enjoy being physically active at the fantastic facilities of our Vital City Spa and Leisure Club.”

Macdonald St. Paul’s Hotel Sheffield is the largest hotel in the city, with 161 bedrooms, a ‘Club Floor’ with 29 clubrooms, a private breakfast room and seven luxury suites.

The hotel also features the Vital City Spa and Leisure Club; Zucca an Italian restaurant equipped with a wood-burning oven; The Yard Canteen & Grill, with a theatre open kitchen; and Bar @ St. Paul’s, a modern and contemporary bar serving over 6 different kinds of Champagne, with live music at weekends.
